Dear Parent/Guardian:

Welcome to a new and exciting year at Andrew Hill High School. Andrew Hill has made many changes the past several years in order to enhance learning. The minimum standards have been raised. In fact, the English class that your student is attending is a college prep class. I believe that all students at this level can learn advanced subjects which will better prepare them for higher education. Please take a moment to check the Green Sheet for the class your student is in. You will find this information on my web page. You may also track your student’s grades, assignments and homework by using the Internet and logging on to my web page at http://thetalon.org. There you will find a calendar and current assignments, as well as instructional and tutorial information. Please encourage your student to use the tutorials for study purposes.

Andrew Hill has been designated a Digital High School. My classroom is also a Digital Classroom. This means that more and more research will require students to use the Internet. In addition to my room, there are several computer labs on campus, which students may use during and after school to complete assignments. I urge you to allow your student access to your home computer. Note: I do not use School Loop because of the complexity of my web page and School Loop’s limitations and restrictions.

Students need to have a good unabridged dictionary and Thesaurus as well as other reference books.

All students need to bring writing paper (notebook)and pens and pencils to class every day.

For outside reading, I suggest students get a library card at your neighborhood library. The school library doesn’t always have enough copies of popular books available. Of course, if you can afford to buy the books, that’s even better. It will help students build their own library, which will come in handy when they go to college since many of the books on my reading list are also core college texts.

I hope to see you at Back to School Night. If you have any questions, please feel free to call me or send me an email at mrdee9@comcast.net.

Sincerely Yours,

Don Donschikowski (Mr. D)
